How FHO Surgery Helps
The hip is a ball-and-socket joint. During FHO surgery, the surgeon removes the femoral head and neck – the ball portion at the top of the thigh bone. This eliminates painful bone-on-bone contact and allows surrounding muscles and soft tissues to form a functional false joint.
FHO does not recreate a normal hip joint, and it is not the best choice for every patient. Results depend on patient size, body condition, the underlying diagnosis, muscle strength, activity level, and postoperative rehabilitation.
